Details

The continuous tamping robot ordered by Irish Rail and currently under construction is fully automated and the pre-stage to autonomous operation. This universal tamping machine not only combines numerous unique selling points, but also represents the top technological product currently on the market. The fully hydraulic tamping drives allow the ballast bed properties to be measured. A novelty are tamping units in which all tines can be pivoted. In System7 automatic tamping mode, the machine determines the optimum tamping time by measurement. International experience shows that the tamping time is extended by an average of 30%. The use of 8 split-head tamping units on independent cross slides is a world first. This increases the flexibility and thus the speed of tamping switches enormously.
