Details
Ireland faces a significant challenge to meet its emission reduction targets, particularly in the transport sector, as it is one of the country’s largest sources of energy demand. It is also one of the most difficult sectors to decarbonise.
This session will outline how Gas Networks Ireland and its partners are supporting decarbonisation of Ireland’s heavy transport sector through delivery of its first network of compressed natural gas (CNG) refuelling stations under the Causeway Project and operation of the national Renewable Gas Registry.
The Causeway Project was developed to deliver the first network of alternative fuel stations in Ireland and provide fleet operators an immediate sustainable offering. The expansion of the number of CNG stations continues and the network is now providing renewable bioCNG to Irish fleets. Decarbonisation of Ireland’s transport sector has also been enabled by the establishment of the Irish Renewable Gas Registry. The registry has provided an objective means of tracking the commercial transactions of renewable gas through the supply chain, therefore providing the means to establish trust in the renewable gas sector.
Attendees, including users and transport representatives will gain insights into ongoing decarbonisation efforts, successful strategies, and the crucial role of policy and industry support.
