The challenges of cost, range, and recharge times of LIB powered EVs is well known yet alternatives to LIBs are not proven commercially and have significant technical hurdles. As such, the future of EVs remains Li-ion, and there is a global race for advances that can reduce costs while enabling higher performance. It is critical for Europe to win this race due to an accepted future of transport that is EV dominated, and the strategic importance of the automotive industry (17.2% compound annual growth rate (CAGR), 6.2% of total employment in Europe, 11.3% of total manufacturing employment, >6 million vehicle exports annually). The SiGNE approach leads to a novel cell chemistry that is tailored for compatibility with the energy and power density requirement of EV applications. This battery technology relies on cutting-edge material components at the anode, electrolyte, separator, and cathode.
