This session explores how collective action, partnerships, and practical tools can help towards a more sustainable future for haematology. We will begin with a strategic view from Elaine Mulcahy (Director, UK Health Alliance on Climate Change) to understand how healthcare organisations can influence policy, followed by real-world examples of reducing emissions across other clinical domains from Keith Moore (Programme Co-ordinator, Sustainable Health Coalition). Stephen Hibbs (haematology registrar) will then share experience of using life cycle assessment (LCA) to calculate the carbon footprint of a red cell transfusion and highlight other practices in haematology where LCA could be usefully applied. We will finish with a discussion to ask questions, highlight ongoing work, and identify opportunities for collaboration and action.
