Details

This inspirational session from the Global SIG explores the challenges faced by those in low resource settings to gain access to specialist care and treatments and highlights the use of partnerships to overcome them. Professor Nick Casewell is director of the centre for snakebite research and interventions at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. He will highlight his innovative research into snakebite venoms and anti-venom development for this neglected tropical disease that affects the most rural and deprived populations, including his work with rural communities in Kenya. Dr Mohsin Badat is a Paediatric Haematologist working at the Royal London Hospital in East London. He also volunteers for the charity Children Not Numbers (CNN). CNN works in Gaza to care for children, taking a holistic approach to their healthcare, education, rehabilitation and safety. Dr Badat runs their biweekly paediatric Haematology MDT and will highlight the role of partnership in helping deliver healthcare in this conflict zone. Mei Ching Ong is the region head for Asia and Eastern Europe at the Max Foundation. The Max Foundation is a leading global health nonprofit dedicated to accelerating health equity. It started as a small volunteer group with the goal of providing access to education and support to Latin American families affected by CML. Since its founding in 1997, it has pioneered practical, scalable, high-quality solutions to bring life-extending and patient-centered healthcare to more than 100,000 people in over 80 countries. Mei Ching will highlight the inspirational work of this charity, the barriers that they face and how they overcome them.
