Ensuring a safe, sustainable blood supply is a growing challenge for health services worldwide. This session explores key developments shaping the future of transfusion practice. We will discuss strategies to secure the donor pool of the future, including initiatives to recruit and retain the next generation of blood donors. We will examine progress toward universal blood components and consider when these innovations might become a reality in clinical practice. And finally we will focus on the challenges of providing blood for patients with rare phenotypes. Together, these talks highlight emerging solutions to safeguard blood availability for all patients.
